I don’t look like a young Truman Capote | Red Room

At the moment, I’m 91 out of 912 on RedRoom.com. Not too shabby. The latest little thing that’s pushed me further down in the 90s was probably the little post I had earlier today about author photos, and I’ve dumped a few author photos L’s taken over the years up there.

Where are your author photo collections? Or some of your favorite ones from others?

Word 2008: How to assign command-G to ‘Find Next’

Betalogue » Blog Archive » Word 2008: How to assign command-G to ‘Find Next’:

So after all this I have finally managed to make Word behave normally when it comes to the shortcut for the “Find Next” command.

Yikes.

I guess I’ll be sticking with Mellel for all word processing needs up to that send-off to the editor/publisher. Haven’t been too impressed with the speed of the new native Word2K8, anyway…

QIClock 2.1.1

QIClock:

v. 2.1.1 You can now update timezone based on the timezone name or abbreviation (this feature requested by L. for easy lookup of Australian timezones).

This app, in its current incarnation, was driven by a little lunchtime musing with L (from L) about what a pain it was, sometimes, working across timezones, and wouldn’t it be nice to have a simple app to let you quickly figure out what time a meeting would be for different folks in different timezones.

And this latest feature is in there just because she’s ramped up some Australian project lately, and AEST isn’t in the [NSTimeZone abbreviationDictionary]… Exciting, isn’t it? The life of a software developer.

Robin Hemley on the Faux Memoir

A good read on the phenomenon of fake memoirs… not just recently, but throughout history.
CRITICAL MASS: Guest Post: Robin Hemley on the Faux Memoir:

I suggest we apply a new litmus test to the works of “memoir” we read. If the fact that this story really happened is the only thing that recommends it, then let’s not bother. If, as fiction, it suddenly collapses, what does that say of our interest in the book?

Good idea. There goes my idea for a crappily written fake memoir (because my true story would be wildly boring).
